During COVID, I spent a lot of time walking around my neighborhood in Queens. As the world slowed down, I started paying more attention to the ways in which our borough's exuberant diversity and resilience are reflected in its housing stock.
Homes that started out as identical structures evolved as the owners adapt them to their tastes and needs. Additions, flourishes, and improved fixes gave each their own distinct personalities.
There's something deeply reassuring about the way these mismatched styles coexist side by side, sometimes clashing, but always harmonizing in their own way. My series "Neighbors" is a quiet portrait of what it means to live together.
